"We want to produce dogs that are capable of doing ANYTHING — health-tested, driven, and stable enough to go home with the right person and thrive."
This isn't a pitch. It's what anyone serious about working-line dogs needs to understand before they make a decision.
Most "German Shepherds" sold today aren't bred for work — they're bred for looks, or worse, just bred. Show-line and backyard dogs carry the name but lack the drives, structure, and health screening that make a working dog worth the investment. You find out years later, after you're attached.
Hip dysplasia, degenerative myelopathy, elbow issues — genetic conditions that show up at 4–7 years, after you've spent a decade with that dog. A responsible breeder runs OFA and a full Embark panel before breeding. Most don't. The puppies look fine at 8 weeks. The heartbreak comes later.
A high-drive working-line dog in the wrong home is a disaster — for both the dog and the owner. Most breeders sell to whoever pays first. Nobody asks about your lifestyle, activity level, or goals. The fit is broken before the puppy ever comes home.
Not goals. Not aspirations. These are program requirements — in writing, on every dog, before breeding.
Full Embark Genetic Panel
250+ disease markers tested on every dog before breeding. DM status, exercise-induced collapse, degenerative conditions — on file, disclosed up front.
OFA Hip · Elbow · Patella · Cardiac · Eye · Thyroid
Six OFA certifications required per breeding dog. Not "checked by a vet" — OFA-certified, results on the OFA public database.
Minimum 2 Years Before First Breeding
Typically 2.5–3 years. Full physical and mental maturity — not just sexually mature. This is non-negotiable.
Working Title Required for Full AKC Registration
Limited AKC registration is standard. Full registration requires a minimum IGP1, PSA, or equivalent working title — the dog has to earn it.
Lifetime Take-Back on Every Dog We Produce
Any reason. Any age. No questions asked. This goes into the purchase contract and we mean it.
Cheyenne & Chelsea Emery · Umatilla, FL
We don't sell puppies to whoever gets here first. We place dogs with owners who match. If the four things below describe you, you're in the right place.
Working-line dogs need real exercise and mental stimulation. Daily movement is a baseline requirement, not optional.
A working-line GSD is a decade-plus commitment that starts with training, structure, and consistency — not just companionship.
You're OK with us selecting your puppy. You understand the temperament match matters more than the coat color or markings.
We recommend raw. We'll walk you through it and provide an approved brand list — but you need to be willing to have the conversation.
Submit an application below. Tell us about your lifestyle and what you're looking for. We review every application personally and reach out when the timing and match are right.
Our Placement Policy
Emery Ranch has the right to keep back any puppy for any reason — issuing a full refund.
Emery Ranch has the right to refuse the sale of any puppy for any reason — issuing a full refund.
Emery Ranch has the right to make the best decision for our dogs — always.
Note: The lifetime take-back guarantee does not include a refund. Dogs are taken back and rehomed with our approval — not returned for cash. A full refund applies only within 72 hours of pickup for a health issue.
From application to placement — and every call after that.
Tell us about your lifestyle, activity level, housing situation, and goals for your dog — sport, service, or serious companion. This is where the match begins.
Cheyenne calls to discuss your application in depth. We ask the questions most breeders skip. If it's not a fit, we'll tell you. Honest conversation before any commitment.
We conduct Volhard temperament testing at 7 weeks. Based on your assessment and the results, we select your puppy. You don't pick — we match. It's the most important thing we do.
Your puppy goes home at 10 weeks with health records, a raw feeding guide, and direct access to us. We take back any dog we produce — no questions asked — forever.
Every dog in our program is health-tested, pedigree-verified, and selected for drives that produce capable, stable working dogs.

Honest answers to the things serious buyers always ask.
No — and this is intentional. We select your puppy based on Volhard temperament testing at 7 weeks, combined with everything you've told us about your lifestyle and goals. A high-drive working-line dog in the wrong home is a problem for both the dog and the owner. We've seen it. We prevent it.
Your puppy comes with: health records, copies of all parent health test results (OFA + full Embark panel), early neurological stimulation (ENS/ESI) from day 3, Volhard temperament testing at 7 weeks, limited AKC registration, and our raw feeding guide with approved brand list. First vet visit after pickup is your responsibility.
Deposits are non-refundable. We reserve the right to retain any deposit. Please do not place a deposit lightly — a puppy is a 10–15 year commitment. Full payment is due at 8 weeks of age. Payment methods accepted: Zelle, cash, personal check, or invoice.
We guarantee the health of our dogs for one full year if the dog is maintained on a proper diet and exercise regimen. A full refund is available within 72 hours of pickup if a health issue arises. After that window, our take-back guarantee applies — we will always take a dog back, but refunds are not offered beyond 72 hours.
Most puppies are sent home with a spay or neuter contract to be completed at or around 2 years of age. Minimum age for altering is 18 months — preferred age is 2 years when the dog is fully adult. Pediatric neutering prevents proper development and creates long-term health problems. The health guarantee is voided if a dog is altered too early. Once a working title and all health testing is completed, full AKC registration may be granted on an approved basis.
Yes — when full health testing (OFA hips, elbows, patella, cardiac, eye, thyroid, and full Embark genetic panel) plus a working title (minimum IGP1, PSA, or approved equivalent) are achieved. This process takes 2–3 years and must be approved by us. Any puppies produced without our approval can be legally confiscated per the purchase contract.
Fill out the form below and tell us about yourself. We review every application and reach out if it looks like a match.

Emery Ranch sits on 40 acres in Umatilla, Florida — Lake County's working dog country. We're not a kennel operation. We're a small family program with a specific standard: health-tested bloodlines, matched placements, and lifetime accountability for every dog we produce.
Cheyenne and Chelsea Emery both came from healthcare careers before going full-time into working dogs. That background shapes how we approach breeding: rigorously, with documented results, and with a willingness to say "not a fit" when the match isn't right.
